Five Star Cleaners is a family owned and operated business, located at 2145 Rumrill Blvd, San Pablo. Owners Nimesh and Ankit Vakharia take great pride in providing eco-friendly dry cleaning, laundry, and alteration services at Five Star Cleaners and Great American Cleaners in El Cerrito.
The impacts of the COVID19 pandemic and shelter in place orders on the hotel, restaurant, and travel industries have rippled outwards, impacting businesses like Five Star Cleaners. Almost overnight laundry service orders for uniforms, bedding, and towels dropped drastically.
Deeply concerned about the fate of their 25 employees and their businesses, Nimesh and Ankit resolved themselves to pivoting their services. As health officials started encouraging people to wear masks to protect themselves and others from the spread of COVID19, the demand for cloth masks soared. Nimesh and Ankit quickly transformed their alterations sewing facilities into cloth mask assembly lines.
Now their skilled workers cut, sew, and assemble cloth masks in a variety of colors, sizes, and styles. But Nimesh and Ankit didn’t stop at offering masks to individual customers: they also set up a mask donation program and are working hard on providing as many full time positions to their staff as possible.
Richmond Main Street is partnering with Five Star Cleaners to provide PPE for Downtown businesses and residents. Our Travis Credit Union Foundation campaign is currently raising funds to purchase hand sanitizer, masks, and face shields from local manufacturers and distribute them to the Downtown community free of charge. Now through September 30, you can help protect lives and livelihoods by donating to our campaign. 100% of your contribution will go towards this important cause and will be matched dollar for dollar by Travis Credit Union Foundation!
