Kids and Kids at Heart Invited to Chill with a Cop

at 6th annual Free Ice Cream Social with Public Safety Officers

Richmond, CAChill with a Cop, a “no agenda”, free ice cream social with the Richmond Police Department, returns to Downtown Richmond on Saturday, August 17 from 11am – 1pm in the MetroWalk Plaza at Richmond BART, in Downtown Richmond. Admission is free. All are welcome.

In addition to free ice cream and a chance for community members to meet and chat with their neighborhood police officers, Chill with a Cop will also feature crime prevention tips and resource booths, a free book faire, chess play, arts and crafts activities, and a CPTED training for residents and businesses at 12pm.

CPTED–Crime Prevention through Environmental Design—is a multi-disciplinary approach to reduce crime through simple & easy changes to the design and maintenance of residential and commercial properties.

“We’re mixing things up a little bit this year by having Chill with a Cop in the plaza at Richmond BART”, explains Alicia Gallo, programs and communications manager for Richmond Main Street Initiative. “This new location is very transit friendly, accessible, and surrounded by residences and some of Downtown’s newest businesses. We’re excited to try it out and activate the space with positivity…and delicious ice cream.”

Chill with a Cop is sponsored by Richmond Main Street Initiative, Lappert’s Ice Cream, Richmond Police Department, BART Police Department, and the City of Richmond, with support from West Coast Chess Alliance, Friends of the Richmond Public Library, and West County Reads.
