3rd Annual Spring Clean-Up & Chess in the Park
Beautifying & Activating Community Spaces Downtown Richmond

Richmond, CA – Richmond Main Street Initiative and West Coast Chess Alliance, invite all green thumbs and chess lovers check out the Spring Clean-Up and Chess in the Park event on Saturday, June 8, at the Community Green Space in Downtown Richmond.

2019 marks the third year for this two-part event, combining day-of-service activities and chess play opportunities for people of all ages.

Park beautification starts at 9am and will be followed by lunch and chess play from 12pm-1pm. Beautification activities will include: weeding (manual & mechanized), pruning, debris pick-up, refreshing planters, and other light gardening work.

Clean-up efforts will support Richmond Main Street’s commitment to ongoing beautification efforts Downtown and to sprucing up the Community Green Space park in preparation of upcoming summer events such as the Healthy Village Festival on June 29. The chess play portion of the event is open and welcome to all members of the community regardless of skill level, playing style, age, or background.

Individuals interested in volunteering for the clean-up are encouraged to sign-up online at or by contacting Alicia Gallo, Richmond Main Street at (510) 236-4049 or Volunteer sign-ups are encouraged; walk-ins are welcome. Community service hours honored. Tools and supplies will be provided, though volunteers are welcome to bring their own.

Spring Clean-Up & Chess in the Park is hosted by Richmond Main Street Initiative‘s Clean & Safe Committee and West Coast Chess Alliance, with generous support from City of Richmond.
