About Art in Windows:
Richmond Main Street Initiative continues to transform downtown Richmond by presenting art that embodies the rich diversity of our community. Art in Windows is a collaborative project with the Richmond Arts and Culture Commission that brings together artists, curators, scholars, business owners, merchants, residents, and organizations from the local community in the exhibition of temporary public artworks. Through this ongoing project, we seek to transform vacant storefronts into living, breathing art spaces that celebrate the rich legacy and history of downtown Richmond, and to explore the relationship between art and community development.

The Spring 2011 Art in Windows exhibition brings together three Bay Area artists: Malik Seneferu utilizes color, symbols, and abstraction to explore his relationship to home and heritage. Ron C. Smith’s work—whether figurative or abstract—captures the dynamic influence of music. Virginia Jourdan’s paintings offer viewers a glimpse into the parenthood through the depiction of intimate, quite moments between mother and child.
