On Wednesday, December 12, hundreds of families visited the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts to experience this unique holiday event filled with gift giving, refreshments, fun activities for kids, holiday shopping, and stellar performances by the Center’s resident youth companies. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and dedication of our volunteers, every child (over 500!) had the opportunity to visit with Santa and return home with a wrapped present and a gift bag filled with small toys and fresh fruit. The evening ended with a magical dedication ceremony for the holiday street lights along Macdonald Avenue—a tradition that we look forward to continuing for years to come.

The 4th annual Spirit & Soul Festival--downtown Richmond's premiere event and fundraiser for Richmond Main Street--took place on Saturday, September 29, 2012. On that day the community gathered on Macdonald Avenue for spectacular performances by Andre Thierry & Zydeco Magic, Tia Carroll, Claning' & Bangin', and C U Next Weekend. Guests also enjoyed walking through an elegant bazaar featuring delicious food by local restaurants, delectable wines and beverages, an open air market featuring local artisans, and entering to win a number of fabulous raffle and silent auction prizes. We also honored downtown champions Jordan Simmons, Arnold Kasendorf, Jerrold Hatchett, and Mary Lavergne for their commitment to improving downtown. The celebration on September 29th continued beyond Spirit & Soul with Richmond Arts in Motion, a special event hosted by the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts, highlighting the arts in Downtown with activities, performances, and a dedication of a new, interactive window display by acclaimed Bay Area-based digital artist Scott Snibbe.
